Visually Impaired Traffic Assist
Advanced Concept Design
We were asked by Bartiméus to develop a new product concept that could help solve a problem for Visually Impaired People (VIP). Based on co-creation sessions and interviews with VIP, and desk research I identified that walking into traffic can be a horrifying experience and sometimes even a fatal one. This resulted in the following vision for the project: “the concept has to allow people that lost their sight later in life to carelessly explore busy cities without the fear of traffic around them. The product has to be an object with intent and the product-user interaction must feel like you’re driving a car for the first time with your parent next to you after getting your driver’s license.” The idea was that it had to feel familiar, not too invasive, and yet firm in the extra guidance that the product would provide. I wrote my own code in Python to prove that the concept would be possible and iterated upon the idea based on test sessions with the end users. It was a really nice project that left a big imprint on me.
