Wooden Painting

A friend of mine asked me if I could reproduce an existing artwork for her. I traced the piece in SolidWorks, iterated upon the original design and printed the technical drawings on a 1:1 scale. After getting the materials, selecting the wood and paint, and tracing the paper templates, I got to drilling and sawing. This production method and my wish to make each layer of the “painting” from one piece of wood, demanded a specific sawing order. Once I had all the pieces, I sanded them down and applied several layers of paint on the coloured pieces and lacquer on the transparent pieces until every piece was well protected and smooth. Then the only step left was to glue everything in place.
